Background

Discover the background and evolution of Rwanda Forestry Authority as a national institution for managing forestry and sustain development.

The Rwanda Forestry Authority (RFA) was established on 29 January 2020 under Law No. 72/2019, following the restructuring of the former Rwanda Water and Forestry Authority (RWFA). In 2022, RFA’s mandate was further refined by Presidential Order N° 034/01 0f 06/05/2022, reaffirming its mission to ensure growth, management and preservation of forest resources for purposes of sustainable development. The Authority’s headquarters are located at the Arboretum of Ruhande in Huye District.
