Division of Forestry Management

This Forest Management Division, three units are designed to accomplish its mandate and includes: Forestry Management Unit (FMU), Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPsU) and Forest Business Support Unit (FBSU):

Forest Management Division Units

Forest Management Unit (FMU)

It deals with the following:

  • Preparation and the rational implementation of the Forest Management Plans

  • The technical follow up of implementation of contracts related to forestry management,

  • Implementation of forestry policy, laws, strategies, regulations, resolutions and other tools related to the promotion and protection of forests;

  • Oversee the Forest Landscape Restoration process in the country

  • Participation in implementation of REDD+ mission and activities in the country.

  • Participation in implementation of the Convergence plan of the COMIFAC,

  • Oversee the implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat desertification and land degradation(UNCCD)

  • Oversee the collection of data concerning the AFOLU section of the NDCs

 

Non-Timber Forest Products Unit (NTFPsU).

This unit deals with:

  • Implementation of the activities and Strategies related to Non-Timber Forest Products at the International and National level

  • Coordination of all activities related to promotion and development of Non-Timber Forest Products and bamboo in particular;

  • Management and the valuation of the contribution of Non-Timber Forest Products to the national economy;

  • Promotion of capacity building activities for producers and stakeholders involved in forestry, bamboo & NTFPs value chains;

  • Extension services to raise awareness on sustainable management of Forestry, NTFPs and Bamboo;

  • Creating awareness of the forestry sector to local communities, forestry officials and opinion leaders and in response get their views on current opportunities and challenges on the contribution of Forestry, NTFPs & Bamboo to poverty reduction, food security, nutrition and sustainable management of natural resources in Rwanda.

Forest Business Support Unit (FBSU)

This unit deals with:

  • Oversee the contribution of the forestry sector to the national economy.

  • Oversee the availability and quantity of forests meant for concession, co-management and tendering;

  • Coordination and issuing the guidance of potential private investors on available business opportunities in the forestry sector of Rwanda;

  • Preparation and issuance of forests related permits as per Forest Law and regulations in Rwanda
