Reducing Vulnerability to Climate Change through Enhanced Community-based Biodiversity Conservation in the Eastern Province of Rwanda

Background

Rwanda Forestry Authority (RFA) through financial support from Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) is implementing a project entitled: “Reducing vulnerability to climate change through enhancing community based biodiversity conservation in the Eastern Province of Rwanda (COMBIO)”.

Project Objective:

Contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation of ecosystems and population in the Eastern Province of Rwanda through enhanced community based biodiversity restoration and conservation over the protected and productive landscapes, while contributing to the green economy development.

Geographical location: Kirehe, Ngoma, Bugesera, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Giatsibo and Nyagatare Districts of the Eastern Province.

Activities Implemented this Fiscal Year

● Tree planting on rivers, lakes and dam sides: 200ha

● Tree planting on roadside: 528 km

2024/25 Planned Activities

● Landscape restoration activities (agroforestry, afforestation and reforestation)

This project is being implemented by the community through landowners by Community Vigilance Committees (CVCs) in collaboration with local authorities.
